This 5-day itinerary focuses on the heart of Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle, taking you from the airport to the magnificent rock fortress of Sigiriya, the ancient kingdoms of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, and the cave temples of Dambulla, before returning you to the airport for your departure.
Arrival: Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB), you will be warmly greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Dambulla.
Afternoon: After settling in, visit the remarkable Dambulla Royal Cave Temple and Golden Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the five main caves filled with ancient murals and hundreds of Buddha statues.
Evening: Enjoy a relaxing dinner at your hotel in Dambulla.
Morning: After breakfast, drive to Sigiriya and ascend the iconic Lion Rock Fortress, another UNESCO World Heritage site. Discover the ancient frescoes of the "Cloud Maidens" and the impressive lion's paw gateway before reaching the summit for breathtaking panoramic views.
Afternoon: Experience the local culture with a traditional village tour. Enjoy a bullock cart ride, a canoe trip across a lake, and a visit to a local home for a traditional Sri Lankan meal.
Evening: Return to your hotel in Dambulla for the night
Morning: Check out from your hotel in Dambulla and drive to Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka's first capital. Begin your exploration of the Sacred City, a UNESCO World Heritage site with a rich history spanning over a thousand years.
Key Sites: Visit the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, the ancient Ruwanwelisaya Stupa, the impressive Jetavanaramaya Stupa, and the serene Thuparamaya Stupa.
Afternoon: Explore the Abhayagiri Monastery complex and the fascinating Kuttam Pokuna (Twin Ponds), showcasing ancient hydraulic engineering.
Evening: Check into your hotel in Anuradhapura and enjoy a peaceful evening
Morning: After breakfast, drive to Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka's well-preserved second capital and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Exploring Polonnaruwa: Discover the impressive ruins of the Royal Palace, the intricately carved Audience Hall, the sacred Quadrangle with its stunning stone carvings, and the majestic Buddha statues at the Gal Vihara.
Afternoon: After exploring Polonnaruwa, begin your journey back towards the Dambulla area.
Evening: Check into a hotel in the Dambulla or Sigiriya area for your final night.
Morning: Enjoy a final breakfast in Sri Lanka. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for some last-minute souvenir shopping or a relaxed start to the day.
Departure: You will be transferred to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) for your departure flight, filled with memories of Sri Lanka's ancient heritage.
